As an important part of this year’s Mungindi Music Festival held on the long weekend of Oct 2nd–4th we are running a Classic Motor Jamboree. Mungindi is situated on the NSW Queensland border and Moree is our nearest big centre. In Mungindi there is not a lot to see but we are big hearted and we sure know how to put on special events. Mungindi is famous for its hot summer temperatures, its
world-record-beating trailer-pull and now one of Australia’s most unique Music Festivals.
At our first Festival in 2005 much to the envy of everyone here in Mungindi the Orbital Swing Band arrived from Coonabarabran in their beautifully restored bus. This gave us an idea that combining music and classic cars would make for a heady mix. But first let me tell you about our bi- annual Music Festival that always seems to catch the interest and imagination of the national media. Maybe it’s because Mungindi is the last place in the world you would expect to find two hundred of Australia’s best musicians who come just to take part in our very special Festival. Ian McNamara from ABC’s Australia All Over programme came to our first Festival and Macca has not stopped talking about it and we hope that he will be back again this year.
Australian Jazz legend, Don Burrows, is our Patron and will be back again this year weaving spellbinding musical magic on his clarinet and saxophone. Double golden guitar winner and country superstar, Felicity Urquhart, will be giving two performances with her five piece band at this year’s Festival and did I mention we have a full Symphony Orchestra travelling up from Sydney?
Over this long weekend our dusty, some might say unmemorable, little town becomes an extraordinary place full of colour, music and laughter. Everyone who has attended our two previous festivals says the Festival was a life-changing experience. We would like your club to take the long sealed road all the way to our town where your members will receive the sort of welcome only normally reserved for royalty.
We are offering a novel range of prizes for the first cars to arrive in town during the week of the Festival and the driver of the car that has travelled the furthest will be presented with a clarinet signed by our Patron Don Burrows who will also throw in a free lesson in exchange for a ride in the car.
There will be a classic and vintage car parade at the Showground on the Saturday and wonderful photo opportunities all weekend long.
