Where is Mungindi?
Mungindi - the town on the border
Mungindians have been explaining for at least one hundred years:
"We are on the NSW/Queensland border where the wiggly bit goes straight. It is where the Barwon River stops being the border and the 29th Parallel takes over. We still have the One Ton Post that the surveyor Cameron (of Cameron's Corner fame) put here. Because the town of Mungindi is on both sides of the border we are the only town in Australia cut by a time zone in summer but that's another story! Mungindi is part of the richest agricultural shire in Australia producing wheat, cotton, cattle and sheep. There are two working cotton gins close to Mungindi township."

The historic 15 stand Cleveland Shearing Shed just outside of Mungindi will be the location for one of the Festival concerts on the Sunday morning
Seven Good Reasons To Visit The Mungindi Music Festival...
- Mungindi has never had a traffic jam.
- There are no traffic lights.
- Bob Carr and Peter Beattie are not trying to force high rise developments on us.
- There are no terrorist alerts out for the MMF.
- The sky is wide and blue and the sunsets are divine.
- The yabbies are easy to catch.
- The fish are jumping out of the Barwon so you need to stand behind a tree to put your bait on a line.

Things to Do and See in Conjunction With Your Visist to the Mungindi Music Festival:
- Visit the spa baths or motels with spas in Moree. The health benefits of such a visit are widely known.
- Travel home via Goondiwindi and Toowoomba if you are going east. Toowoomba, in the heart of the Darling Downs, is known as the Garden City and the gardens will be at their best (if it rains).
- Visit Lightning Ridge, home of the black opal, which is 1 1/2 hours west. This unique town is well worth seeing.
- Mungindi is on the shortest inland route to Longreach and the Stockman's Hall of Fame. There is a bitumen highway all the way and interesting towns about every 100 kms. eg. St George, Mitchell, Charleville, Augathella, Tambo and Blackall.
The nearest railway station and commercial airport is at Moree (private/charter planes can fly direct to Mundindi airport).
Festival buses will pick up participants to take them to Mungindi which is 1 hour and 20 minutes further west.
Click here for information on booking buses from Moree.
Festival shuttle buses in Mungindi will transport the performers and audiences to the different performance locations.
As there will be large numbers of people travelling from Sydney we hope to make special arrangements with Countrylink for a special festival portion of the Sydney to Moree train on the Thursday 29th and returning on Monday Oct 3rd.
Contact the Festival Hotline on 0428 364 999 to find out about other groups travelling to Mungindi as there may be the opportunity of sharing transport.
